Jim Beam Halts Production Amid Rising Bourbon Inventory and Trade Concerns
Jim Beam, a leading bourbon producer, will pause production at its main distillery starting January 1, 2026, due to an oversupply of aging barrels and ongoing trade uncertainties. Kentucky currently holds a record 16.1 million barrels, leading to a 27% increase in aging barrel taxes, totaling $75 million this year. Although production will cease at the Clermont facility, distilling will continue at two other sites, and the company plans to invest in site enhancements. Jim Beam has not announced any layoffs, but discussions with union representatives are ongoing regarding workforce impacts. The bourbon industry is facing challenges from trade wars and changing consumer spending habits.
